Do You Know How Anti Lock Brakes Work?

anti lock brakesLearning about something as complex and intricate as your vehicle can seem like too much┬ásometimes. The trick involves doing it a little bit at a time so it doesn’t become overwhelming. Knowing the basics of your car will undoubtedly come in handy at some point, so we’ve put together some information about one of its parts: the anti lock brakes.

What they do:

These brakes work as a safety measurement; they use the basic principles of cadence braking & threshold braking (techniques developed by professional drivers) automatically to improve control and shorten stopping time on dry or slippery surfaces.

They don’t quite work as well on snow or gravel services, actually increasing stopping distance.

How they work:

Basically, when one wheel begins to turn slower (a symptom indicating the brakes will soon lock), hydraulic brake pressure gets decreased. Conversely, when a wheel turns faster, more pressure gets applied. This can happen up to 15 times a second.
